"Pillboxes - Our History, Our Heritage"

Living on the Suffolk Coast, I have often seen these structures dotted around, past remenants of World War 2. I was fascinated by their history, why they were built, how they were located, who manned these isolated structures.

Almost all of these boxes, occassionally used by a famer or sheep for storage or shelter, are primarily left to the environment to slowly be demolished and forgetten.

I thought about the need to protect our history, to remind ourselves of past conflict, to give us a sense of place in time.

The project moved from that awareness to the current issues of losing our coastline to the ravages of the sea and what we are doing to protect our heritage and historical coastline.
